On Wednesday, June 15, Nigeria’s largest
entertainment broker Upfront and Personal
officially showed off top Nigerian music
stars Tiwa Savage, Banky W, Cobhams and
Sound Sultan gathered at a press conference
in Lagos, to officially announce their
presence at the One Africa Music Festival.
Tiwa Savage, Praize, Cobhmas, Banky W and
CEO Upfront & Personal, Paul O
The music festival is set to take place on
July 22, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre,
United States of America (USA). Other artists
billed to perform include Diamond Platnumz,
Wizkid, Davido, Flavour, Oluwaseun Kuti
among others.
Speaking at the gathering, Mavin Records
first lady Tiwa Savage disclosed that: “I am
thankful to God that I am alive to be part of
this great project, I think it is a revelation to
African music and it is history in the making.
I believe this is the first of many to open
doors because the world is ready for African
music. Someone once said to me that when
the world gives you 15mins, what are you
going to do with it? I guess this is our own
15mins for Africans to show what we have.
Mr Paul O mentioned this about a year ago
and I thought he was crazy because to have
this vision is not a small task.”
Another celebrated music artist Praize also
disclosed that: “Banky W has said it all, this
is history in the making and like I was telling
my friend who lives in the US that I am about
to rock the Barclays Centre and was like
‘what!’ A lot of big acts in the States have
not dreamt of performing there and Africans
are about shutting down the place so I am
very excited and looking forward to that day.”
Top Nigeria’s instrumentalist Cobhams
Asuquo was not left out, has he disclosed
that it is not all about different music coming
together but using the opportunity to call on
the government to remember the kidnapped
Chibok girls.
He said: “There is something I have noticed
with us as a people, we know how to talk
about something when it happens and over
time we know how to move on as well. I
think for this reason, a lot of things have
happened to us as a people and we have
moved on but there one thing we have
recognized and it’s that if you take centre
stage, it is your opportunity to make certain
things known, to bring certain things to the
floor because you have the ears and the
attention of the world. This is why all the
foundation come to Africa and we try to lobby
people’s attention because it’s helps us .”
Cobhams further made emphasized on the
Chibok girls adding that it is not the best
thing to happen to our nation and that is
what one Africa music festival is about as he
urged everyone to take part in the campaign
in whatever we do because it is something
that affects us passionately as we want the
world to know about it. While dancing we
should address the real issues in Nigeria that
does not have a voice.
