This is what the One1 looks like if it hasn’t been smashed through a barrier and into a grass verge
A $6million Koenigsegg hypercar has been crashed during its test at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany making it in one of the most expensive accidents ever involving a car.
The driver lost control and smashed into the barrier and ended up the other side of the rail
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at one of the track’s most demanding sections smashing right into barriers.
The One:1, one of only seven ever created, suffered serious front and rear damage as well as fire damage.
The 275mph One1 was being tested at the famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany
The unique high speed crash happened on Monday, July 18. The driver was reportedly taken to hospital as a precaution but released soon after medical checkup.
Koenigsegg confirmed the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and released the same afternoon
Koenigsegg released the statement commenting on the accident: “A Koenigsegg is an extreme performance car and must be tested accordingly.
It is powered by a 5-litre engine which develops a staggering 1,341bhp to give it a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds
This is an inherently dangerous undertaking that must be conducted progressively and methodically, working point by point on all areas of our highly adjustable vehicles. Our primary concern is always driver safety and any testing is structured and conducted accordingly.
Huge tyre marks along the asphalt show how far the unnamed test driver skidded before hitting the barriers
This incident is confirmation of just how difficult it is to drive at this level on the world’s ultimate proving ground.
Obviously we are dismayed with this development but pleased that our safety systems worked as designed to protect our driver.”
Surrey-based Koenigsegg specialist Supervettura is currently marketing the One1 development car for around $6million
The hypercar is powered by a 5-litre engine which develops a staggering 1,341bhp to give it a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds. The car will do 0-248mph (400kph) in around 20 seconds and the brake to a standstill in ten seconds.
